What is the AMP?

The Annual Meeting of Parishioners (AMP) is held in June each year. It's a meeting to elect the Church Council, and is also when the ministries of our church are discussed, the upcoming year’s church budget is presented and voted on and questions about our church can be put to both Evan and the Church Council.

Do I need to come to the AMP?

It's not required for everyone who attends St Matthew's to come to the AMP, but it is a very important and encouraging night in the life of our church and all are welcome to attend.

Do I need to enrol?

You are welcome to attend the AMP as an observer and ask questions without enrolling. If you would like to make a motion, second a motion, or vote on a motion during the AMP you will need to be enrolled. You also need to be enrolled if you would like to be nominated for any of the roles elected at the AMP (Church Councillor, Warden, Nominator of Clergy and Synod Representative).

Enrolling is different to church membership through Onboard. Only doing Onboard will not allow you to vote or be elected at the AMP (find out more about Onboard here)A list of current voting members is available in the foyer eight weeks before the AMP.

What is the Church Council?

As an Anglican Church St Matthew’s is led by our Senior Minister - Evan McFarlane - assisted by the Church Council which is comprised of wardens and councillors elected or appointed from people who attend St Matthew's. They meet monthly to discuss and decide important matters to do with St Matthew's, including staffing, how our budget is spent and the direction the church is moving.

What is a Warden?

The job of the church wardens is to administer the financial and property affairs
of the parish. They oversee the week-to-week management of the church’s physical and financial resources. There are three church wardens, one appointed by the minister and two elected at the AMP.

What is a Nominator of Clergy?

Nominators are tasked with searching for and nominating a new rector when a senior minister resigns or cannot continue his role. If this occurs, it is a very demanding role, and when that is not required Nominators pray for the current senior minister and his ministry amongst us.

What is a Synod Representative?

Synod representatives attend and participate in the synod (general council) of the Diocese of Perth on behalf of the church. They are elected for a three-year term.
